9/06/13 Photography Terms & Definitions
- Line: A regular pattern that joins together a number of elements of the image
- Shape: Two-dimensional element of an image usually used by the viewer to identify objects within the image
- Color: Consists of hue, saturation, brightness, and intensity
- Value: Level of brightness of pixel or color as defined in Hue Saturation Value color space.
- Texture: Emphasizes features and details of an object in an image
- Volume/Form:When objects appear as either occupied space
- Balance/White balance: Camera function that compensates for the various colors of light different light sources emit; balancing composition of an image with visual equality in shape, form, etc
- Harmony: brings together a composition with similar units.
- Contrast: A measure of the rate of an image's change of brightness; the different brightnesses of various objects in the image
- Movement & Rhythm: Path of the viewer's eye through the image, usually along a focal area; recurring elements in movement
